Rachel is a new
kayaking instructor at the KAC this year, but has been
enjoying regular paddles with the company for the past 5
years. She has spent time during every summer of her life in
the Keweenaw area, originally vacationing with family on
Bootjack Road in Lake Linden. About 5 years ago, on one of the
regular trips that she and her family would take around the
Keweenaw, Rachel fell in love with Copper Harbor, and she
decided to move her vacation spot here. After spending a month
camping with her mom at Fort Wilkins and working at the
Country Village in the summer of 2005, she decided that this
was the place to be! In the summer of 2006 Rachel rented out
an inactive sauna room as living quarters so that she could
spend her summer here. She waited tables, biked around, and
kayaked all summer long.
Having just graduated from the International Academy in
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Rachel has finally found the
opportunity to move to da UP and spend all her time outdoors
and on the water. She will be attending Northern Michigan
University in the fall of 2007, and plans on a double major in
Graphic Design and Directing in Theatre. Throughout the year,
and whenever she can during the summer, Rachel loves to spend
her time creating art in many mediums including sculpture,
soft pastels, colored pencils, graphic media, and chain-mail.
She also has an intense passion for theatre, and has already
had the opportunity to head the theatre tech team at her
former high school for two years and to produce and direct two
plays. Her favorite activities also include the ongoing search
for great music, jumping into freezing-cold Lake Superior at 2
am, and collecting anything she can find in cow print.
