KAC’s Navigation of COVID-19’s Uncharted Waters

Michigan Outdoors Adventure

Meltdown at the shop, as of March 20th.

Dear Fellow Adventurer,

First and foremost, we at the Keweenaw Adventure Company (KAC) hope this message finds you and yours remaining safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. Our well wishes go out to all and we hope the following will provide you some reassurance to help alleviate stress about COVID-19’s impact on potential trip planning.

You may not be surprised that life in our little Copper Harbor bubble has not changed too drastically from how it might otherwise have been during this “off-season” time of year. The village is in a lull, and the norm of social distancing is now practiced mindfully – including when getting outside. We are working from our home office, accompanied by some outdoor recesses. The days are getting longer, temperatures are starting to rise, snow is melting and migrating birds are starting to return to the great white North.

… Copper Harbor, Michigan is taking necessary and State mandated precautions.

That being said, in response to Covid-19, all of Copper Harbor, Michigan is taking necessary and State mandated precautions. Businesses  that normally would be open in late March (including our vacation lodging rentals) have temporarily closed and no services are available at this time.  With non-essential travel being discouraged around the globe, our entire community is taking it seriously and encourages all to do the same until this threat has passed.

We are remaining cautiously optimistic for the summer season, and have an amazing veteran staff lined up to host your next Michigan outdoor adventure. The majority of our 2020 rental bikes have arrived, and the mechanics are eager with anticipation to break open the boxes and start the builds.

… along with the rest of the world we are simply in a “wait and see” mode…

With the ambiguity at hand, however, along with the rest of the world we are simply in a “wait and see” mode to further assess the situation before we make any official calls and/or “opening day” announcements.  We are hopeful the risk of the spread will largely be behind us, the snow will have melted, the trails opened and that we’ll be commencing our 2020 operations as intended on Memorial Day Weekend, though please stay tuned for future updates.

… to help you book with confidence, we are offering an exceptional policy of an optional 100% refund or a non-expiring  voucher…

In the meantime, rest assured, we want you to know it’s totally OK to dream big and start planning your next Michigan outdoor adventure with us. We got your back and are here to assist with any trip planning questions and reservations (906.289.4303). What’s more, to help you book with confidence, we are offering an exceptional policy of an optional 100% refund or non-expiring voucher for any bookings made during this uncertain time. And Gift Cards, which never expire, are always available here.  (NOTE: For those early-birds who have already secured a booking, please know we are willing to issue a full refund, credit or a gift card if you decide it’s not the right summer for you to adventure with us.) And speaking of early-bird, in case you missed it, don’t forget to take advantage of our special 20%-off any day sea kayak trip when you book by May 1st with promocode 2020KAYAK20%.

… regaining the freedom of travel and adventuring will be a therapeutic part of everyone’s recovery.

As we all move through these uncharted waters together, digesting and accepting the realities of COVID-19, clarity on the situation will inevitably come and regaining the freedom of travel and adventuring will be a therapeutic part of everyone’s recovery.  So with that, here’s to those brighter, sunny days of paddling and pedaling ahead…

Stay safe. Be Well.
