Another Amazing & Unprecedented Season!

Another Amazing & Unprecedented Season!

THANKS TO YOU — we’ve done it again… amidst the unknowns and beyond all expectations, we managed to host yet another record-breaking season of adventuring.  An unprecedented volume of folks looking to get outside for safe, socially distanced activities showed up on our doorstep to adventure on the water and land, and stay at our lodging, too.

For a bit of behind scenes of how the start of our season was full of question-marks, check out former blog posts: KAC’s Navigation of COVID-19’s Uncharted Waters and Postponed Opening — Doing the Safety Dance.

We ultimately credit the good fortune of the season to our phenomenal staff who truly stepped up to the high demand, our loyal customers and a slew of new customers who were understanding and appreciative of our COVID-19 Response & Safety Measures and to a supportive community.

Oct. 17th – last call. Book your passes ahead of time to snag a spot!

The shop officially closes for the season on October 17th, which will be the LAST DAY FOR MOUNTAIN BIKE SHUTTLES, too.

A few highlights of the season we’d like to share include:

  • As detailed in our blog We Won an Award Because of You!, prior to the season’s start we were “humbled to have been recently recognized by our fellow Keweenaw local business community… as the recipient of the 2019 community “Spark Plug Award for Superior Customer Service.”  We believe this was in large part due to all of our valued customers who have provided a 5-star review on Trip Advisor, Facebook and/or Google.
  • Recently your awesome reviews on Trip Advisor also earned a Traveler’s Choice Award, ranking us within the TOP 10% OF ATTRACTIONS WORLDWIDE!!
  • Your generous donations for our BONUS FUNDRAISER SHUTTLE DAYS raised over $900 for the Copper Harbor Trails Club (to which we annually contribute an excess of $5000 in cash, donations collected and in-kind services) and nearly $1500 for the Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition (KORC) in working towards protecting permanent public access to at risk corporate lands. Additionally, the sale of KAC facemasks brought in close to $1000 of proceeds that will be donated to our Western Upper Peninsula Food Bank.
  • While our multi-day Isle Royale sea kayak tours were unfortunately cancelled due to the suspension of ferry service, our day sea kayak tours saw over a 100% increase. Similarly, while our mountain bike shuttle service encountered a 70% capacity reduction, our mountain bike rentals grew over 50%!!

We are so grateful for not just your patronage, but also for your encouragement to keep the adventures going despite the many doubts and disruptions faced this season.

So many, many thanks!!!
Here’s to future adventuring and staying safe… Ride & Paddle On!
Sam, Shelby and the whole KAC Crew
