Meet Ben Miller – Senior Sea Kayak Guide/Isle Royale Guide
Ben’s love for the outdoors and snow brought him to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Keweenaw. He originally grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio but was born to be in the outdoors. At the early age of 15, Ben obtained the highest rank in Boy Scouts, the Eagle Scout. Through Boy Scouts, he was able to enjoy many outdoor adventures including hiking at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and canoeing at Northern Tier in Ely, Minnesota. In 2011, Ben graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology and a minor in Alternative Energy. In addition to working at Keweenaw Adventure Company (KAC), Ben is the owner and operator of Keweenaw Kabin Keeper LLC.
This is Ben’s third season with KAC, and while Ben loves his summer’s guiding and cruising the big lake in a sea kayak, his favorite season is undoubtedly winter. His favorite winter hobbies include snowboarding, ice climbing, and snowmobiling. In February 2015, he made a solo snowmobile trip across the entire Upper Peninsula in one day totaling 437 miles. Ben enjoys making trips out west each winter to snowboard at various resorts. One of his favorite areas to snowboard include the resorts and backcountry near Jackson Wyoming. Ben has made it a tradition to ride down the overflow mountain bike trail each winter on his snowboard and even rode down the Man Pants feature this past winter!
Ben currently lives in Lake Linden with his wife Elizabeth, son Brecken, and three dogs Mya, Autumn, and Timber. He is a First Responder and Firefighter 2 on the Bootjack Fire and Rescue Department. Ben enjoys any outdoor activity in the Northwoods including fishing, hunting, rock climbing, hiking, four wheeler/dirt bike trail riding, and snowshoeing.
