I grew up in the flat land-locked state of Indiana, but always had a deep yearning for adventure and love of everything nature. A typical Midwesterner that would probably have stuck around my home town were it not for a passion in music. I began playing in bands in high school which eventually turned into touring internationally full time. Travelling 6 months out of the year as a deathmetal guitarist is what first gave me the travel bug…and the need for an “outside of the box” job to accommodate being on the road found me in the seasonal industry.
Which led me to driving one horse open sleighs around Lake Tahoe in the first winter, then spending summers on Mackinac Island after. After a few years working with horses and travelling the world between, I found an opportunity in kayaking and I immediately knew I was sold. I’ve been a sea kayak instructor now since 2018 and have been to some pretty amazing places because of it, from guiding/teaching around the great lakes region and training guides in Alaska, to multi day trips across the Florida everglades and kayak surfing the east coast.
Now I try to fill my days with a healthy balance between time on the water, and putting miles on the mountain bike, too!
