Meet Matt – Senior Sea Kayak Guide & Bike Mechanic (w/ Guest Apperances)
Exploring and traveling has always been a passion of mine. Growing up I was heavily involved in Boy Scouts and as an adult have continued to learn and grow in the outdoors. However, perhaps ironically, it wasn’t until moving from my hometown of Traverse City, MI to Chicago that I truly discovered sea kayaking and cycling. For three years I worked as a kayak guide and instructor on the Chicago river and lake Michigan, and in our free time my fellow guides and I would run whitewater, explore the great lakes on expedition trips, and play as hard as we worked. In the pursuit of growing and becoming a better paddler I set my sights for Lake Superior, and are very excited to have started my first season with the Keweenaw Adventure Company!
The idea and possibilities of human powered transportation has always been exciting to me which is why working for an outfitter that supplies that via kayaking and cycling is pretty awesome! I started taking bicycle trips back in 2010, the longest being a ride from Chicago to New Orleans. I also worked as a messenger in downtown Chicago for two winters, all the while learning a lot about bikes and how to maintain them. Being a proper bike mechanic has always been a dream of mine and are stoked to have made that a reality with KAC. Hope to see you on the water!
