Isaac Ruen

Meet Isaac – Bike Tour Guide

Isaac grew up in Evanston, Illinois where he spent a lot of time at the beach when it was warm and even more time behind a TV playing video games when it was cold. The only deviation from his usual flat roads and uniform sidewalks was when his family would visit his grandparents’ cabin in the U.P.

Every summer since he was 4, his family would take a trip to see his grandparents and explore the woods and rocks. There he got to know the beauty of the Keweenaw peninsula and discover the world of mountain biking.

Isaac loves being outdoors, not so much stuck inside a classroom. Therefore, after high school he decided to continue pursuing his passion in the wilderness: he has worked with a conservation corps in California, thru-hiked part of the Appalachian Trail and spent his winters snowboarding. He’s now on his 3rd year guiding and working for the Keweenaw Adventure Company. He can confidently say it was a good decision to spend his summers up here, dare he say the best decision he’s ever made 😉

This job has helped Isaac live the way he wants. His life here is full of biking, kayaking, spending time with some really awesome people and laughing, laughing a lot.

This work is hard on the body and mind, but the rewards are priceless. That feeling of seeing people experience their first sunset on the water, or helping someone learn a new skill on their bike – it’s moments like those that make him feel so full of joy. Cheers to having adventures and to all the ones that lie ahead.
