Palmer is a DK (Directors Kid). He grew up with a camp director for a father and got to move around to a couple different camps during his youth. Mainly Camp Clearwater Forest near Crosby, MN for elementary school years and Camp Menogyn in the Boundary Waters for the high school years. Needless to say he was raised with a genuine respect and love for the outdoors.
After high school he moved to California and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for a decade working as a bicycle mechanic and ski technician for several outdoor stores and bicycle shops.
While attending Laney Community College in Oakland, CA for Welding and Machining, with a goal of trying to get a “real job” he decided that wasn’t for him. He loaded up his little van and moved up to North Lake Tahoe.
For the last fifteen years he has worked for Palisades Tahoe in the Winter and Yuba Expeditions in Downieville, CA for the summer. Working with people and helping them get back out on their skis or their bikes to enjoy the outdoors is something that Jon really enjoys doing.
He loves all aspects of winter and appreciates a good day riding chairlifts as well as long days on the skin track exploring the mountains and searching for “the goods”. During the summer, going mountain biking or finding places to go paddle are his main outlets for enjoyment.
Looking for the next adventure, Palmer moved back to the Midwest. Several people in Tahoe and Downieville, from friends to clients to outdoor reps had recommended he checkout Copper Harbor and Mt. Bohemia. After spending the last two years driving his little van up to the U.P. and all around MN and WI, he decided those people were correct and this place is awesome, and also he has smart friends.
