Sea Kayak Outfitting

A foggy morning on Isle Royale...photo by Steve Brimm (brimmages.com) Copper Harbor is one of two ports in Michigan providing passenger ferry service to Isle Royale National Park.  Isle Royale is the only island park in the National Park system and is also the largest island in the largest fresh water lake in the world!  It is the least visited of all the National Parks and it's said that more people visit Yellowstone in a day than Isle Royale in an entire season. A trip to Isle Royale offers a true wilderness experience unike any other place in the world!   Hiking and boating are the only means of travel, as no vehicles are allowed on Isle Royale.  The island has over 150 miles of shoreline and numerous barrier islands and fjord like bays that can best be explored in a sea kayak.

Paddling past one of Isle Royale's numerous barrier islands.

Our kayak livery is convienently located next to the Isle Royale Queen IV ferry dock.  They will transport kayaks on the ferry for an additional fee. The 3 hour, 56 mile journey on board the Isle Royale Queen across the world's largest freshwater lake, is half the adventure!

Copper Harbor is also located on the Keweenaw Water Trail.  This is an established

Keweenaw Water Trail
Kayakers are welcome and may want to spend the night at the Jacobsville Lighthouse B&B while paddling this section of the Water Trail.

route designed from a paddler's perspective which will allow the circumnavigation of the Keweenaw Peninsula.  Unique to this trail is the ability to paddle a loop and return to your point of origin without backtracking.  The entire loop can be covered by the average paddler in six to eight days, but allow a few extra days for possibly being windbound.  This route is recommended for more experienced paddlers.  Sections of the water trail may be done as shorter day or overnight trips.
